There’s perhaps nothing stronger than stories, for they have the power to change the world. Fiction gives us an escape, nonfiction gives us education, and then there are books for children. They can help shape an entire generation.

Today’s author is among those who create heroes for little kids. S.R.D Harris is the author of Future Miss President, an inspiring story to girls of all ages that is designed to fuel their passion to chase and achieve their dreams.

We are happy to be talking with S.R.D. Harris today and that she agreed to answer our questions.

Our Interview with S.R.D. Harris

        • Before we begin, would you please tell our readers a little about yourself?
Gladly! I am a wife, mother of 3 daughters and a rescued puppy named Gracie. I have always loved reading and prefer reading a good book over watching television any day! I love to cook, travel, and spend time with my family. I also enjoy giving back and enthusiastically volunteer with Reading 365 with the American Literacy Corporation. I believe all children can love reading if they connect with the right books for them!
        • What inspired you to start writing stories for children?
I have always dreamed of becoming a Published Author and finally made that dream come true in 2021. My three children inspired me to write stories for children that are uplifting, empowering, and inspiring. I am always looking for positive messages to share with my children and nephew, so what better way than to create our own! My mission is to spark a love of reading in all children and write diverse books that all children can relate to and enjoy.

I am also very interested in philanthropy and am partnering with a local Animal Rescue (CHA Animal Shelter) to publish a book about a rescued puppy named Gracie. Proceeds from the book sales will go directly to CHA to allow them to continue to save homeless and abandoned dogs and cats in our community. I love giving back and am really looking forward to publishing “Gracie’s Grace” this year as our Passion Project!

        • What is the most difficult part about writing books for children?
Being a self-published Author, I would say the most difficult aspect is funding each project and prioritizing which books will be published first. I have so many ideas and pride myself on providing High-Quality books, so it is a challenge to get the books to market as quickly as I would like. The challenge is definitely worth it, and I feel so happy and proud to see my books in hands of children all over the world!
        • Describe your perfect book hero or heroine.
My perfect book heroine is one who faces a challenge, digs deep inside herself to overcome that challenge, grows from the experience and helps others along the way. Although we know no hero/heroine is “perfect,” we can all be a hero to others by the loving and inspiring impact we have on their lives.
        • How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I currently have three books published and 4 more in production at this time. Asking me which book is my favorite, is very hard to answer. It is like asking who my favorite child is. LOL? I can’t pick just one. They all have aspects I absolutely LOVE about them. For example, “Future Miss President” was inspired by the Historic Election of our first female Vice President in the United States. Its goal is to encourage children to dream really big dreams and build their self-esteem. “Teddy Only Wants Spaghetti” is a fun culinary tale about a boy who only wants to eat spaghetti. We all know how kids can become picky eaters or obsessed with a favorite food. His story takes an unexpected twist, and he learns a valuable lesson about trying new things and creating balance in his eating habits. My third book, “Bella Loves Her Umbrella” is a beautiful and imaginative story about a girl whose creativity transforms a mundane umbrella into something much, much more! I love it because it encourages children to be creative and to find unique solutions and see ordinary objects in new ways!
        • Tell us about your first published book. What was the journey like?
During the pandemic quarantine/lock down, I had the opportunity to really take the time to research self-publishing. I took months to learn about setting up a Publishing Company and learning how to produce High-Quality Books. I began writing my first book when Ms. Harris was chosen as the Vice-Presidential nominee and completed it the morning after the election. My journey to get my first book took many turns. For example, my first few illustrators ended up not working out. I changed the title a time or two and edited the book a million times. It was quite the accomplishment to finally get the book to market and I am so proud of how she has turned out! My books are currently for sale in local bookstores {Prologue Bookshop and Gramercy Bexley}, Donna’s Delicious Donuts, Ice Cream Rollery Reynoldsburg and on my website srdharrisbooks.com I encourage your readers to sign up and subscribe on our website to stay updated on all the latest developments we have coming.
        • Finally, if any of our readers want to interact with you, where can they find you?
